Noodlehead Petal Pouches

Hello there!  I do hope that the Christmas holidays, however you celebrate, or if you don’t, have been peaceful for you.

We’ve had the most wonderful time.  Christmas Eve was spent at The Lowry theatre watching the marvellous production of Doctor Dolittle.

Christmas Day we went out for Christmas lunch to a local restaurant with the in-laws, and it was stress free and just delightful.  The children even waited until late afternoon to open their gifts.

It was all so very calm and stress free, which was exactly what we all needed.

The rest of this week has been spent in pyjamas…napping, eating snacks and Christmas ham, watching films and catching up on reading.  It’s only today that I’ve surfaced and thought I’d share the only Christmas sewing I did this year.

My lovely knitterly friends are fondly called The Coven by my husband.  He jokes that during the French Revolution we’d have been tricoteuses, gathered together by the guillotine with tea, cakes and socks flying from the needles.

I’m not sure we’d have been that bloodthirsty, but we do gather as often as commitments permit for tea and cakes, cheese and biscuits, excellent company, vibrant conversation, and, of course, knitting.

So when it came to Christmas gifts, I decided that a Coven Gift was the way to go.  Something that we could have one each of.  A textile symbol of our camaraderie.

All of you knitters know that you can never have too many project pouches, so I plumped for the Petal Pouch from Noodlehead, mainly because of it’s delightfully swooping top line.

This is the larger of the two pouches that come with the pattern.

It’s just the most perfectly sized pouch for holding a pair of socks or mitts, or any small project.  It would fit granny squares or some English Paper Piecing just as well.

The instructions are clear and straightforward, and any wonkiness is completely user error.  If you look closely enough you’ll work out which was the first pouch I made and the progression through the four of them!

All the seams are enclosed so you have a lovely clean finish inside as well as out.

These pouches aren’t difficult to sew, you just need to take your time. A little precision goes a long way!

I can’t recommend this pattern enough.  I dropped a pair of black sheep scissors from Hawthorne Handmade into each pouch, and these were well received.  A non-knitting friend has requested one to use as a makeup bag.  And I need to make one for me as well.   I think this pattern will get more use in the year to come, as I’d like the smaller pouch for holding cable needles and the like.

And, of course, I couldn’t sign off without signposting you to this gorgeous Scandi style fabric.  It’s Dashwood Studio’s Winterfold and I bought mine from Olive + Flo.  It’s a shop I’ve not used before but I was very please with the speed at which the fabric was despatched, especially as I was a tad last minute with my Christmas sewing plans!  I’ll be very happy to use them again.  Ditto Hawthorne Handmade.  I love finding new independent shops with quality products and great service.

So I suspect that this will be my last post of 2018.  I’ll be back in the New Year, but until then hope that as the year turns your home is warm and cosy and peaceful.
