Having taped the pattern together last week it dawned on me that this week is Kids Clothes Week.
I am a bear of very little brain at the moment and it had completely failed to sink in until yesterday morning.
At which point I decided that, yes, I could manage an hour a day of sewing, and yes, this would be the perfect opportunity to make a shirt for Boy in time for his birthday celebrations in a couple of weeks.
So Day 1 saw the pattern pieces being cut out and a shirt kindly gifted to us by our friend Martin for just such a purpose being hacked into small pieces.
Note to the wise. Cut your collar before you cut your yokes. Yokes can be finangled. Collars not so much.
Boy’s shirt will now have a grandad collar!
I can live with that!
Love that fabric, he’s going to be very smart
I’ve got to get him to wear it, though. He’s definitely a shorts and t-shirts kinda guy.
An hour a day sounds manageable and those colours will look so good on him!
Although somehow I’ve managed not to do an hour yet today…..
Cute pattern!!
It is…but the instructions are messy and…oh, I’ll do a full review when it’s finished. It does look nice though!
I didn’t think I was going to participate but the ‘one hour a day for seven days’ made it sound manageable. I’m making the Titchy Threads skinny jeans for my 2 year old.
The shirt looks great and even better that it’s coming from an upcycled garment.
I have a stack of shirts to upcycle for him so I need to make a start. The Titchy Threads skinny jeans are so cute. Good luck!
Grandad collars are the coolest.
Well done for even getting this far 🙂
I do like a grandad collar…thankfully. Never mind necessity…rubbish cutting is the mother of invention! 😉
Do you know I have yet to make a shirt. I mean a proper one with stand collar and such, so thank you for the tip about the collar! I also have a couple of wee nephews and some donated work shirts I so I could practice, right? Oo good idea.
Cracking idea. What are you waiting for? 😉 (Said she who is still sewing the darned thing)
Gorgeous – have never made a shirt!
Having made one for the husband they are not as scary as you think. This will be more fiddly around the cuffs because of the size, but definitely not scary.
When I get back to Spain (and my machine) it may be time to overcome the fear!
He will look very smart.
I just nominated you for a Liebster award. Information is on my blog: http://kaitlynssimplyvintage.blogspot.com.au/2014/01/liebster-award.html
I do hope so.
And thank you for the very kind nomination…I’m off to check out your blog!
