You’ll remember I’m sure the Fairhope cardigan I’ve been knitting.
The last time you saw it, well, it looked like this:
And then, of course I ran out of yarn!
But now it’s finished.
In fact it’s been finished for a few weeks.
But I’ve got to tell you it’s not a happy ending.
You see, this is what Fairhope should look like when finished:
Gorgeous, no? Elegant and cosy and just generally lovely.
Yeah! Right!
Although, in fairness to the lovely Kim, the pattern has been a joy to knit and the cardigan itself looks exactly as it should, just with a few inches extra length.
I think the problem is with the model.
I’m only sharing this with you because I know you won’t laugh.
But really…..this is an amazing pattern that is just completely the wrong style for me. I think it’s that good old learning curve rearing it’s head again!
Thankfully Ma really enjoys such tedious tasks as unravelling unfortunate knits. Which is a godsend as frankly I’d rather stick red hot pins in my eyes. I’d even gone so far as to get permission from the designer to sell this cardigan.
But I love the colour.
So it’s back to the drawing board…with big fat thanks to Ma!
And let’s face it…if this is the worst thing that happens to me this week then the world is a pretty cool place. So watch this space.

I think I have just the candidate…and it’s been approved by good friends whose opinion I trust. Fingers crossed!
I don’t think it’s so bad. What if you wore a top with a different neckline under it? Like either a turtleneck or a collared shirt? The color is wonderful on you.
I don’t think you needed the extra length. I’ll bet it would look great if it fell right at your waistline.
But, if you really hate it…. then thank goodness for Ma!
I do love the colour… so thank you for the compliment. But I just couldn’t get on with the actual garment.
It’s undone, washed to get the kinks out and drying ready for winding into balls.
I’m looking forward to getting it back on the needles.
I think the sweater would look just as elegant on you as it does on the model if you were to stand just as she is standing, with your arm at just the right angle and the lighting just so. But given that you were planning to actually wear it to move around in you made the right decision. I’m learning that a great thing about knitting compared to sewing is the fact that you take apart a wadder and have your material back good as new!
I think the children would be very bemused if I did just stand around like that all day!
I’m finding it very strange that I’m not more disappointed. I think I’m quite enjoying learning what works and doesn’t work for me. And having a lovely pile of yarn waiting for me to knit it up!
I´m not laughing and I think the colour is great on you, But that´s the problem with knitting and crochet…you can´t try it on first. It really wasn´t so bad though, but as you have a lovely Ma, you can now turn it into something even more fabulous!
My Ma is a marvel. She loves all those really hideous jobs that I hate. I have a rack full of unravelled yarn to prove it (and a huge number of hex’s for a quilt…but that’s another story)!
And I laughed almost to tears…it looked hilarious!
