Today the children’s school is having an International Day where each class celebrates a different country. I love these kinds of days because the kids have a load of fun, but learn a little more about the world, without really trying.
Boy’s class is doing England and Button’s, France. At the risk of perpetrating xenophobic stereotypes of these countries, he has gone to school this morning as St George, she as a Parisian.
I give you The Frenchman and St George:
:: Thanks to Ma, Ma SIL, Liz and The Husband, who all contributed in some way to these costumes.
:: Apologies to my fellow countrymen and any passing French folk! And any professional costume designers!
:: Button would not keep the beret at the appropriate jaunty angle.
:: Is is me or does Boy bear a passing resemblance to Baldrick in that helmet?
:: I think I need to start saving for their therapy now!

OMG! Baldrick! Yes!!
This is over-the-top adorable!!
Evie says
I knew it! He’s so thrilled with it and both costumes were a big hit at school!
sewing princess says
So cool! I would love to see their faces some years from now when they look back at these pictures!
Evie says
They may never forgive me! Can you imagine the reaction of teenage girl and boyfriends? Hahahahaha!
K-Line says
Oh, Lord, Evie! This is the cutest thing ever! I am howling here. I love these costumes. On a side note, I find it hilarious that International Day focuses on your own country and the one next to you. 🙂 In Toronto (admittedly, the “world’s most diverse city”, though I loathe that term), the places would be the smallest, most remote, most foreign lands imaginable. Seriously, places you’d never have heard of. Which, btw, I find equally hilarious.
Evie says
They are hilarious, no?
In the school’s defence the International Day was linked to the World Cup, which is even funnier considering England’s abysmal showing there. But we English are nothing if not insular! 😉 Empire mentality and all that. Some things never change!
Mother of Reinvention says
I agree he does a bit. Did he have a turnip? So totally cute though. Looks like they will have a lot of fun. Xx
Evie says
I am crying with laughter at the thought of a turnip! They had an absolute blast.
Anne-Marie says
Hi Evie, your children look lovely in their dressups! They are so cute!
On a different note – are you able to either increase the font a smidgen or deepen the colour of the text? I’m having real trouble reading your blog since the changes were made. And I do like reading it!
Evie says
Thank you.
Re the font…I’m in complete agreement with you. It’s a pain and it’s definitely going to be changed. I just need my “Technical Support” to stop being so busy and fix it for me. I can’t do this kind of stuff to save my life. Please bear with me…it won’t be long, I promise.
Anne-Marie says
Forget I asked about the font – I discovered I can increase the setting myself and that solves the problem.
Chica Andaluza says
tres amusant! I bet they had a great day, they certainly look the part 🙂
PendleStitches says
Thank you. They had such fun. They aren’t really “dress up” kids…but love it when it’s at school and all their friends are joining in.
ooobop says
How absolutely adorable. I always moan about dress up days at school but secretly I love any excuse for a sewing project!
Evie says
Me too! Especially when it’s pronounced as “the best costume ever”! Bless him!
beth says
They look excellent! The Baldrick comment did make me laugh.
Evie says
Thank you. He had me in stitches with that costume. So cute. So Baldrick! 😉
