Park Life Sweater – FO 18/2010

October 5, 2010

Five weeks and a bit to go to the wedding and still the dress isn’t started.

I have, however, finished Button’s latest sweater, just in time for the temperatures to really drop.  We call it the Park Life Sweater as it’s perfect for playing out in the park on crisp, sunny autumn days.

Or for just bouncing! The yarn is the very inexpensive, but machine washable Hayfield Bonus Aran….£7.49 for 400g and I still have loads left.  I’ll definitely be using this yarn again for kids knits.

The pattern is a Debbie Bliss from this book, which I’ve had for years but you can get on Amazon.I love this sweater.  It’s a mindless TV watching knit and so practical.  Button is thrilled with it. This is the first knit I’ve made for her where she’s understood what I’m doing and she’s been so excited.  She even “helped” me knit a few stitches, to the absolute delight of both of us.

Next up…I’ve got some gorgeous yarn for a sweater for me.  I shall wind some balls and share with you soon.

My final exam is next Tuesday and then I’ve just alterations to Alice-who-isn’t-a-cat’s dress, and hems for the three bridesmaids dresses and then I’ll start mine.

As I’m still losing weight…it’s a good job I’ve waited so long to start otherwise I’d be doing major alterations now.

That’s my excuse and I’m sticking with it!!!!!!!!  😉

Sands of time

September 15, 2010

On Monday of this week Button started nursery.  Just two mornings a week.

We are all thrilled but in a corner of my heart is a little voice reminding me that this is just the first of her major milestones that we will guide and cheer her through.

Still, she has been through so much in her little life so far that to see her strolling into class, without a backwards glance or a care in the world, we realised that maybe, just maybe, we were doing ok by her.

I think she’ll be fine.

Extreme toddler sport – sofa sliding

You climb upthen you slide (or more appropriately, shuffle, but who cares) downI’m ridiculously proud of their ingenuity in coming up with new and vaguely dangerous ways to play.  God help me when they discover trees!

All hands on deck

August 15, 2010

Finally the sun is shining in Lancashire.

Which means the timber for the deck is dry enough for Mr S to be able to get outside and start filling the big black hole in the garden with a lovely new deckLike any sensible woman faced with the man of the house doing DIY, I took the only option available to me, packed the kids up and went to the park.

We are blessed with a lovely park just a couple of miles away.

C’mon Mummy, the ducks are this way!

Whaddya mean you didn’t bring bread?

Milk please, Grandma. Ooh and a cookie too? Yummmmm!
Ruuuuuuuunnnnnnnn!

Can we play too?

Ha! This walking lark is a breeze!

I don’t think we should jump, Puppy, do you?

If the weather is even remotely dry next weekend, the deck will be finished. But for now, we have two tired babies fast asleep in bed, chicken dinner about to be served and Mr S nursing a well deserved stiff drink.

Birthday

August 3, 2010

Saturday was Ma Stitches-in-law’s birthday and we celebrated at home.

I made garlic foccacia, spaghetti tetrazzini and apple cinnamon cake.

A good time was had by all.  And I tried to get a good photo to share…I really did.  But everyone insisted on gurning to the camera

and you know as well as I do that being late posting about your mother-in-law-to-be’s birthday is one thing, posting a less than flattering photo is a completely different kettle of fish.

So, Happy Birthday Beth, and here’s a favourite photo of you that I’m sure you’ll be happy to share

Geronimo!!!

July 29, 2010

As I came out of the shower this morning I heard an ominous thud from the playroom.

This is what I found. At least she had the good sense to install a crash mat!

Let sleeping babes lie

July 2, 2010

Today the babies were playing in their room.  As usual they were noisy and boisterous, stripping cushions off the sofa and tipping toys all over the room. Pretty much standard practice for small children.

Suddenly I realised that all was quiet.

Most peculiar.

Here’s the reason why:Asleep where they stopped.

Too cute!

Happy Father’s Day

June 20, 2010

Happy Father’s Day, my love.  It’s so wonderful to have our little  family complete this year.

Father’s Day is celebrated Chez Stitches with a lie-in for Daddy, breakfast in bed, gifts (a bottle of his favourite brandy for now with another item en route from the States) then we are joined by the parents for the obligatory (and Mr Stitches’ favourite) Devil’s Food Cake. The cake is decimated because although Pa isn’t with us Pa SIL kindly offered to eat his share of the cake.  What we’d do without him I do not know.

However.  It seems that I’ve read far too much of the Selfish Seamstress recently, because although it’s Father’s Day, I’ve taken a leaf out of her book and successfully managed to make today all about ME!

It’s my birthday on Tuesday (yay!) and I really wasn’t expecting presents from the family because I really, really, REALLY want a digital SLR and, when asked, told them all not to bother with a gift, but to please all save up for birthday and Christmas until there was a fund sufficient to buy me a second-hand entry-level camera.

Well, whaddya know!  They pulled a blinder!

My new baby!

For some time now Mr (Sneaky) S has been sat of an evening messing with his phone and when questioned has reliably informed me he was mooching round on eBay.

This is the fruits of his labours.  Technically secondhand.  Actually brand spanking new apart from about 10 photos that it took for its previous owner to work out he hadn’t got a clue and tootle off to buy something simpler.

His loss.  My gain.  I’m a VERY HAPPY BUNNY, so thank you family.  I’m also very grateful.

Now…I have a manual to read and pictures to take.

Have a lovely Sunday.

Talking ’bout my girl!

May 22, 2010

It’s 2 1/2 years since Mr S and I began our adoption journey.  It’s not a journey you undertake lightly, but the rewards are beyond measure.

On Thursday we took another step towards the end of our journey.

Button’s Adoption Day Ceremony was held in front of the Judge.

Followed by lunch at one of our local Gasto Pubs where we raised a glass to Button finally being officially oursGifts were gladly openedAnd a good time was had by allHopefully it won’t be too long before we do it all again for The Boy!

Remembrance

May 6, 2010

This time last year my Dad was still with us and we hadn’t even met Button.   By 8pm in the evening the landscape of our world had change irrevocably.

It really doesn’t seem like a year.

But today the apple tree my dear friends bought me in celebration of Button and remembrance of Pa blossoms to remind me that the raw edge of the pain of loss fades but the happy memories stay fresh and vivid.

And though we still miss Pa each and every day, we  are blessed to have Button and The Boy to help us through.
