Simplicity 1886…almost

August 26, 2013

The Simplicity top is finished and the review is written.  I just needed pictures to add to the post and I was good to go.

Today we have had glorious sunshine which seemed to present a perfect opportunity to test drive my lovely new top at a local food festival.

IMG_8936_edited-1Or not!

Blasted iron was too hot (obviously nothing to do with me having it on the wrong setting)!

My immediate reaction was “thank goodness I have enough of this fabric to make another”.

Well, actually, that was my second reaction.  My first involved my expletives of choice.

Then I realised that a strategically placed design feature could probably save this top…and several hours work for me too!  So I’ve got it all pinned and ready to sew and will get back to you soon with the finished article.

Much quicker and less painless than making a whole new top! 😉 Phew!

How upsetting! Although now I’m looking forward to seeing the design feature.

Ha ha! I’m such a tease. It’s not remotely exciting!

Aaaargh! It is some years since I have done that but I feel your pain. I am glad you have worked out how to save this and can’t wait to see how.

The last time I did it was when I scorched my wedding dress….

I will admit to being hysterical. 2 days before the wedding. Thankfully the dress is pleated, so I moved the pleat lines and hid the scorch!

Oh NO! So glad to hear you could save it… the amount of fabric I’ve got iron-shaped holes in is damning… 😉

      You’d think we’d learn…but I never do!

Oh no!!! that happened to me too once…I resorted to a lace applique on the dress to cover up the mess! You should still go to the festival though! Would be a pity to miss it! Can’t wait to see the new top.

We did go to the festival and had a fabulous time. And the top got an outing today!

Aaarrgghhh! I’ve done that too! So frustrating and the fabric looks lovely too!

It is pretty fabric…and I have quite a big piece left 😀

OMG – I’ve never seen holes produced by an iron (though I’ve heard of them, of course). Egad. I’m so happy you have more fabric because it’s gorgeous. FWIW, I make very poor sewing decisions on a regular basis.

I am a font of “what not to do when sewing” information. 😉
Thankfully the top has been rescued and I have plenty of fabric left to make something else. Hurrah!

Oh no, I hate it when that happens! I’ve tried being extra cautious and having the iron on a lower heat to prevent this happening but then the iron isn’t warm enough to get the wrinkles out -_-_

That was exactly what happened here. Sigh!

Gah! I would have kicked myself. But yay for extra fabric on hand.
