Like riding a bike!

April 16, 2014

It’s time for a certain little miss to lose the stabilisers on her bike.

Initial wobbles….

Bike 1

….followed by lots of concentration and encouragement…

Bike 2

…resulted in triumph.

Bike 3

She’s nearly as proud of herself as we are.

We have lots of practice ahead of us, but she’ll soon be flying solo.

And obviously the best outfit for learning to ride a bike is a tutu and hot pink accessories!

ps…we’ve promised her a new bike when she’s mastered it.  When did she get so tall?

OK, that first photo is hilarious! The look on Button’s face! And I remember those days. Took 2 summers to teach our kid to ride because we used training wheels to start. They threw off her balance and freaked her out when she had to go it alone. This from a kid whose parents don’t have a car and who biked her to school and daycare for years?!?! We think she just didn’t want to learn cuz it would mean she’d have to be responsible for getting herself up the hill 🙂

We’ve hidden the hills from Button! Last year it was all “why should I pedal when you guys will push me?” She thought we were demented.
This year her independent streak has kicked in!
I think Boy will be a whole load easier…but my nerves can’t stand both of them wobbling at the same time!

Yay for Button! Tell her I love her tutu, won’t you? Riding in style, that’s where it’s at.

Tutu and hot pink accessories sound like they would be good for any event. The time does fly. Mine is now almost taller than me and she has only just turned a teenager. Goes too quickly. xx

      It’s a look I wish I could carry off!
I do wish they’d stop growing. Your girl is a beauty, btw.

D’you know, until I had kids I hardly ever took photos. Now I have thousands. I’m always grateful because these moments are so fleeting, it’s a joy to have a record of them.

I think she will to. We are so close to family bike rides in the park…I’m so excited at the prospect.

I remember when my youngest learned to ride her bike without training wheels, 37 years ago – she was a stubborn little thing and didn’t want me to let go of her. After a block running behind her telling her ‘I am holding your bike’ but not doing so, she discovered she’d been biking all by herself and was furious with me! She got off her bike, and for the next four weeks would only walk besides it. This lasted until her dad took her for a ride and convinced her that she no longer needed one of us to hold her. I love the look on your daughter’s face! Anne-Marie

You youngest sounds like she has the same strength of character as Button. We’ve created a rod for our own back now as all she wants to do is cycle so she can crack it. 😉
