Heskin trousers – FO 18/2012

August 8, 2012

As these trousers are as black as coal, and Lancashire is historically a mining community as well as a textile one, it’s appropriate that these trousers are named for a local pit.  As I once worked at Heskin Hall…it’s the obvious choice.

So, here are the Heskin trousers:

They are the same pattern as the Almost Perfect Trousers but I narrowed the leg a smidge and like them even more for that.

M5239

In fact…I think I’ve now nailed this pattern!  I don’t think I’m going to get a better fit than this.  Having looked at some of the high end RTW out there, I’d go so far as to say that mine hold their own.

These are stretch lightweight wool and just so comfortable.

And although they are just the simplest pair of black trousers ever made, I love them.  They are a really great wardrobe basic.  And they make me happy!

The small print:

Pattern:         McCalls 5239 – £0 as pattern previously used.

Fabric:           Wool/lycra mix from Washable Fabric on Preston market.

Notions:         Thread, zip and hook fastener from stash. £0.

Total cost:      £10

PS – The top is last years Monsoon.  I had to take it in by 4″ because I’ve lost weight since I bought it.

I’m not complaining! 🙂

Thank you. The sandals are Matalan! I’m so cheap 😉 They had them in loads of colours but not sure if they are still in store.

Thank you for your lovely comment. I still have a way to go with the weight loss, but sometimes forget just how far I’ve already come.

The pants look fabulous on you. They are this season’s length and they fit you perfectly. I wish I could have a pair of pants that fit like this 🙂

Thank you for your kind comment. I could not get pants to fit at all until I went on the Palmer Pletsch course with the lovely Celia. I now rely on the Pants for Real People book, and also got Celia to cast an eye over these at a recent open sewing morning at Bambers in Manchester.

I still find it incredibly useful to have a second pair of eyes when making trousers and I’m lucky enough to be able to go to these workshops as they are quiet close. I know everyone else isn’t as lucky, but, as I learnt with my jeans, you can do it yourself, it just takes a couple of mirrors and a little more time.

Thank you! I would heartily recommend making your own trousers. Two people this week have commented on how much weight I’ve lost when I’ve been wearing these trousers. My weight has been static for a while now! Clothes that fit are miraculous.

Fabulous pants !!! They are the perfect shape for you .
The original ones I made for the course are almost perfect but because I added extra to the inner thighs the crotch length has ended up too big for my liking. I am definitely going to make it a priority this Winter to end up with the perfect pair of pants.

    Have a look here http://www.livestream.com/silhouettepatterns/video?clipId=pla_78ffc956-970d-4ac7-a8a1-29a542a2ece4&utm_source=lslibrary&utm_medium=ui-thumb

Where she takes in the pouchy bit that’s exactly what I ended up with on a lesser scale . I am confident between what celia taught us and the book I will get a perfect pair .

Thank you! They are rapidly becoming my favourite trousers. I get lots of compliments in them, which is always lovely.
I love these Silhouette videos…they are very comprehensive. I haven’t watched this particular one so have added it to my list.
Stick with it…you will get there with the trousers and it’s so worth it.
